Committees

The Diversity Committee was founded in 2013 by Karen Postal, PhD ABPP, former President of MNS, and other committed MNS board members committed to issues of culture and diversity in the field of neuropsychology. The committee’s formation stemmed from a recognition of the importance of and need for more robust research, training, and professional development aimed at deepening our understanding of the role of culture and diversity in neuropsychological assessment and cognitive function.

The Education Committee functions under the direction of and with funding from the MNS Board of Directors to meet objectives for professional development, education, and training of MNS members. The committee's mission is to provide information about advances in research in and practice of neuropsychology that will increase the knowledge base and enhance the quality of services provided by its members, as well as keep members apprised of important developments in health care policy affecting the field of neuropsychology.

The Purpose of the MNS Healthcare Reform Committee (HRC) is to: Keep MNS members and the Board of Directors informed about federal and state healthcare reform trends and developments. Provide recommendations to the MNS Board of Directors (BOD) about building community relations, issuing public comments, and taking other informational actions in the MNS community or in the larger regulatory, legislative, and healthcare arenas. The goal of these efforts is to keep MNS and neuropsychology services vital and engaged as healthcare systems evolve. For more details, please see our mission statement.

It has been a long-standing tradition at MNS to facilitate the students’ involvement in the society and to provide the students and trainees with opportunities for interaction with senior members, such as student meetings, panel discussions, and Science Symposium. We would like to expand the MNS benefits for both student and regular members and to announce the launch of MNS Mentoring Program! As such, this program offers the opportunity for students to connect with senior MNS members.

The Professional Affairs Committee (PAC) was re-established in 2007 as a way for MNS to engage actively in advocacy issues related specifically to the daily practice of our members. It’s mission, in short, is to advocate for the field of professional neuropsychology in the Commonwealth, to provide MNS members with practical resources and advice for professional practice, to interact with insurance companies to ensure access to care for our services, to support training programs, and to advocate for the field in the community. It is our goal to support and incorporate all members within the neuropsychology community including practicing clinicians, researchers, educators, and students. The Professional Affairs Committee also strives to foster ties with APA, INS, NAN, and other state and national organizations with similar agendas that allow us to take a “big picture” approach to our local dilemmas, as well as notify them of issues that come our way.
